Apparently HEBCO's assets have finally been resolved, and funds appropriated from Siam on false basis have been restored....

While not an optimal situation, as two buyers for one set of ship- we can't clone them, so ... I'd rather see a current active player (Foxy) get the ships he's thought he had, so long as the NPC I'm custodioning doesn't loose out big picture- and the refund handles that..and makes paying for/upgrading the new ships easier.

How about this :
I think with the chaos in Siam, the US may have chosen to sell to an ally instead. The 2000 is apparently in an escrow account and Siam can "spend" that in Q1/1940 ?

If acceptable, a mod should delete carthaginian's entry for the caldwells

Who bought the 3rd carrier? That's the one I wanted.

Carthaginian has the Caldwells in the Siamese destroyers, noted
"6 x Caldwell class ships will be purchased from the United States in 1936. These vessels will be upgraded to the following specifications at the time of their delivery, and should all enter service by 1937."

As for the 3rd carrier, that would be...oh you should go ask Italy.

Heh at least one of the former Siamese players had aspirations towards parts of Indochina as well, another may have been angling to blackmail the Brits over Burmese supply lines- I wasn't entirely clear. But Siam has been an equal opportunity thorn at times.

Still, once refitted- and payment terms leave Siam some spending $ each Q- to do that with, I don't think there are any glaring needs, so a new person can build as desired.

Those were the six Caldwell Class

In other news the Siamese did arrange to purchase 2 small carriers, the 3 escort cruisers and were surprised and thrilled to receive the gift of the 10 Perla class subs. Overall this nicely rounds out the Siamese fleet.

I find it odd that vcl artillery tractor is the source of 43 and belgium t13 tank destroyer the source of 2... both of those being in my Belgian army TOE.
Info is accurate for those two at least....

Yep they are dinky, short and limited capacity. Hard to operate a full squadron of torpedo bombers from one I'd guess.

They really can only fit enough planes for one role, but the one I *think* the Siamese need is fighter cover...and 12 fighters or fighter-bombers can be armed and launched in a reasonable time.

Allowing opposing recon to be destroyed- blinding the foe is important...but also if landbased/flying boats are used for long range strikes, they will likely be unescorted, and those fighters would be of use. Even against an escorted strike they should have some use.

Anyhow, they are cheap enough, small enough, and of the right speed to fit the Siamese fleet. We'll see if they get any.

Hmm a conundrum.

I had volunteered to catch Siam up to date, and did so with CG's blessing. My role is done, at least for now.

In the course of that I felt Siam could use a small fast carrier. The goal would be to provide Some fighters or scouts for use in the South China Sea or Bay of Bengal. Insufficient for an offensive strike, but a means of destroying enemy recon planes and disrupting maritime strikes.

The last Siamese player sold the small fast carrier that the player before him built.

So the Italian CVLs suit Siam, and actually the CDS would compliment their existing vessels as well.

So if folks are ok with my 'caretaking' them in this manner, I'll talk to CG and see if Siam should be bidding on them.

Siam 1939 06.08.2010 08:09 Forum: SIM Reports

Note : In these reports I start allocating tonnage to an unspecified large combatant. This is so that if a new Siamese player comes in and wants a CVL or CA, or even a CL...well part of the time and tonnage will be done.

Likewise I call for Perla-class subs and Surasdra-class torpedo boats. I tried to update the Surasdra, but didn't get much better results. I was figuring in 1939-40 to build a second squadron of them.

The refurbishments should allow the light armanent of the ships to be standardized with the Siamese fleet, the details of which will be left to the Siamese player.

F. Updated Order of Battle-

Note : This is updated from the Encylopedia and I believe represents Siam's 1937 strength, not including some Danish and Iberian vessels, doesn't quite agree with RAM's posted fleet list

Note: X (Y)+Z = completed/in service (under repair/refit/rebuild) + under construction.
